Born in Ohio and raised in Connecticut, Cindy began her musical career as a New York street performer. She spent three semesters at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and also studied with legendary teacher Alan Dawson. Cindy moved to New York City in the 80's and since that time, she has been seen and heard by millions of people all over the world performing with her own group and during her 15 year stint with retro funk rocker Lenny Kravitz. Cindy has been touted as "one of the hottest drummers in the business", and is regarded as one of the top drummers in the world.
She's upheld the backbeat and created texture for a veritable "Who's Who" in jazz: Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson, Wallace Roney, Don Pullen, Hugh Masekela, Pharaoh Sanders, Sam Rivers, Cassandra Wilson, Angela Bofill, Bill Laswell, Buckethead, Jean-Paul Bourelly Ron Carter and many more.

Cindy released her 8th solo album in February 2008 under her own production and as her first independent album - entitled “Music for the New Millennium.” Cindy's last two solo releases “Works On Canvas” and more recently, “Music For The New Millennium”, both feature the talents of Cindy's quartet Including J.D. Allen (Tenor Saxophone), Carlton Holmes (Piano/Fender Rhodes) and George Mitchell (Bass).

Carlton Holmes is a pianist of exceptional talent, musicality, and creativity.
In addition to leading his own bands, Carlton’s performing and recording credit includes work with Charlie Persip, Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Garrett, Branford Marsalis, Max Roach, Stevie Wonder, Diane Reeves, Regina Belle, Donald Bryd, Terumasa Hino, and many others.

George Mitchell is one of the most expressive and talented bass players on the scene today. George Mitchell has performed with such greats as Joe Henderson, George Coleman, Kevin Eubanks, Bill Syms Jr., Chris Potter, Vincent Herring, Dave Liebman, Slide Hampton, Harold Mayburn, Nicholas Patton, Mulgrew Miller, Ed Thigpen, Cindy Blackman and George Cables among others.

J.D. Allen is hailed by the New York Times as "a tenor saxophonist with an enigmatic, elegant and hard-driving style,” The Detroit natives apprenticeship has largely been in New York, where he has performed, recorded, and toured with legends Louis Hayes, Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Frank Foster Big Band, Butch Morris, David Murray and contemporaries Cindy Blackman, Orrin Evans, Marcus Gilmore, Russell Gunn and Me'shell N'degeocello among others.
